Repressed Anima

Repressed Anima

A Poem by Brad Nugent

beneath the eaves
a spider caresses her young
with careless abandon

casting them out on gossamer
to random destination

slender threads of salvation

(the father was eaten)

a boy waits behind glass
an eye lowering
glowering

squinting out to clarify
a middle perspective

watching wave upon wave

         roll in
         roll in

then roiling
toiling to stable purchase
traction gained
an invasion blusters
and buffets against

an amorphous frame
distorted

(a maternal hesitation)

let’s just see what it looks like
out there before we go

subjugators inside and out
intentional and not
disrupt the flow

the window’s in the past
here now shouts thunder

hunker down to dreams
the storm will abate
as your hunger

         you’ll see
         you’ll see

you’ll see
a lightning flash
captured
contained

renamed and reprogrammed
by upright generals
on abandoned docks

filing reports
the crippled corporal
in crimpled skirts
puddled and muddied
drags forth the results
of fragmented self

overwrought

Protection and survival. Smart writing. The opening lines are a great lead in.

This is quite hard-hitting. These images are quite forceful and build up to the last lines of the poem. Ot does make us overwrought. Thanks for sharing.
