Leaves By The Roadside

Leaves By The Roadside

A Poem by Brad Nugent

dead leaves lie crumpled
kerbside at midday
huddled in silent heat

cause and effect
the many tumbled
spirited

as one
from a crumbled bunker

a bleak retreat

yet another apart
and alone remained

grasping star-edged and stoic
to grim and bloody battle dirt

heroic

frozen
sun-blind
sun-stained

a tricycle wheel spurs
fluttered lacewing whispers

distorted
assorted believable lies
unlived and unuttered

moments in time
magnified

impotent
and still

This is a moving poem, which tugs at my heart as it conjures tragic images of war-torn Ukraine.

"cause and effect

Sharp lines and i really like the title. Its fun to read your writing.

I like this one. You use rhyme skilfully - i.e. not simply banged on at the ends of lines. Some is rhyme, some half-rhyme. Good to see it used in different ways, B. Another of yours I enjoy. I'll be looking in again.

Thank you so much, Andrew. Very motivating to read your kind feedback. Appreciated.
Plenty of imagery and movement in this write. Fallen leaves can stir up many emotions. You penned this well Brad. First of yours I have read. Pleased to have stopped by.

You are welcome :)
Most enjoyable read, the way the imagery interacts with the actions and expressions of feeling. The sense of movement is also very engaging, makes the heart race as it is being read. Thanks for sharing. Frederick.
