Soldiers at WarA Poem by theycallmebrades
Soldier
When I say the word soldier What comes to your mind? Camo uniforms Boot Camp War When I say the world war What comes to mind? Bombs Tanks Foreign affairs Did any of you think of An ordinary girl Or an ordinary boy? WAKE UP There's a war going on in Our city Our country Our world In this audience alone There are soldiers But can you pick them out of the crowd? There are no uniforms Except for everyday clothes The weapons of choice are small And usually hidden from sight The enemies being fought? Well, they're in the soldiers head It's an internal war And too many are silent Because those who don't understand What the war is Or why the war is happening Are too afraid of the unknown To get involved Or maybe don't see the clues Here's a clue Battle wounds on the Arm Leg Or wrist Are not ugly or weird But a last defense Help the soldiers Before it's too late Just a simple smile Is extra ammo for these soldiers A reason to keep fighting I am a soldier And I have the scars to prove it To my fellow soldiers You don't have to struggle in silence You are not alone You are strong You are powerful Your life is precious Remember who the real enemy is There's a war going on in Our city Our country Our world But what happens when the clues Aren't as obvious as A tank Or a uniform?
