Dear Friends, despite the scepticism of some, I have been able to fully justify your view that I am a philosopher of hope and joy.
I am proud and delighted to announce that recently, while attempting to come up with a new proof of the Pythagoras’ Theorem, I serendiptiously stumbled across the most beautiful, elegant and ingenious mathematical proof that we are all, in fact, living in Hell.
Consequently, we have nothing at all to worry about as things cannot get any worse and there is no hope for salvation.
People who think that this is hell on Earth are actually extremely inane optimists living in a fool’s paradise, still clinging on to the false hope that things could improve, whereas our real situation is in fact infinitely worse. They should have their illusions demolished by a helpful and gentle pointing out of the error of their beliefs.
People who realize that this is not hell on Earth, but rather that the whole Earth is in Hell are free from any delusional hopes and are in a better position to deal with the realities of life.
I will attempt to render this proof accessible to a layperson some time soon.
Lolz, coz I totally agree. Although, still try to face the fact of a dead end with an optimistic front, as it is sometimes easier to forget and not to believe. xD. But yeah, the whole Earth is in hell, evidence is pretty easy to find if only you look a bit closely, and err... watch TV. xD. (wow, that smiley is so appropriate for a talk about how the Earth is in hell, seriously)
Omigod, lol.
This world must really be an absolute puzzle for all you mathmatical intellectuals.lol. But, there's hope, because"you" will explain it all to us laymen. Lord, it's like I'm back in the 70's watching some dopers working with the rubic cube at a party. :) Yep,yep, keep working, you almost got it. :) With due respect, I had to read another piece to make sure you had a sense of humor, and you do...which is in your favor. Rain..
PS.. I promise not to bother you, again. :)
well, I am writing about this, you write here and all that - for 2 years; and I live it. interesting coincidence is that you pick up those topics, too. so now you said that we are living in a hell. can you explain ...why?
Right now I am writing a long paper about it.
great observations. keep on this observation.
I have always posited that mathematics is the study and manipulation of numbers and philosophy the study and manipulation of words [no, not thoughts but words]. And I must say that your thesis here in my mind at least does support my theory. ;-) L
Hmmmm . . . a very interesting perspective, I must say. Yet, a part of me agrees with you, whole-heartedly. So, what should we make of this Earth/Hell? This poet wants to hear more.
This reminds me of C.S. Lewis' 'The Screwtape Letters'. Otherwise, it reminds me of our conversation were I purported we are living in Purgatory - close enough - I see we are of like minds at times even in jest. This made me laugh out loud at one point - I hope you don't take offense to that. Thank you.

Siddartha
I remain one of your best skeptics as I cannot pull from this piece any inkling of hope and joy. (or are you being sarcastic?)
I am trying to find the essence of this piece. I have come to see that the triangle of assertions in the 3rd stanza just does not hold up to close examination. 1) ..."we have nothing at all to worry about" 2)..."things cannot get any worse" and 3)...."there is no hope for salvation" I do not agree that you can conclude #3 from the first two assertions. Who is to say when one should discard hope, if ever? Why label those who hold on to hope of salvation as foolish or stupid? Why are you so certain that hope is an illusion? What do you mean when you say "the false hope that things could improve"?
I think you forget that there are some outside of the two categories you mention, who think that something has indeed gone wrong here on Earth, (perhaps this is quite close to your catagory of people who think Earth is in hell), but who maintain that there is hope for, indeed an intense desire and need for, salvation.
Perhaps if one accepts that Earth is in hell, that there is no hope, that there is nothing to worry about, then one would not attempt to change anything, one would lose forward momentum toward any kind of effort, might even decide to end one's life. It seems somehow empty, this kind of reasoning, when life holds so many rich examples of hope and its results. Have you ever seen "Touching the Void" about mountain climbers Joe Simpson & Simon Yates? This is a true story I will never forget. To me, Joe is the champion of hope in the face of hell. You should see it.
As always, thank you for thought-provoking writing!
