A Poem I wrote for you ...

A Poem I wrote for you ...

A Chapter by Rosalie Santerino
"

This has been voted my best poem. I have won competitions with it. It was written to be read at my best friends grave after she was killed by a car age 16.

"
I returned to Balsham today

in many ways

it hasn't changed

In the light your house still stands

now owned by foreign hands

The Christmas lights are on

but the tackyness has gone

the curtains closed

the door locked

no longer am I free to knock

The house next door is where

I babysit

perfect kids

and there

standing on tiled kitchen floors

I can see the house that once was yours

I don’t know why it seems the same

the bricks

the colour

everything's changed

and yet it will always be

a memory to you and me

The number glowing in red light

shows me that the house is right

and yet

I don’t get

the house is there but you are not

I walked along the same old paths

New hairstyle

New boots

Old past

so much older, not much cleverer

Goodbye seems pathetic when it is forever

They had stopped the tacky fun

Christmas competition, not one

house went over board

not this year

it would be different if you were here

It probably is me going crazy fast

your figures on the path

in the halls

pictures on the walls

but yet the house lies empty now

I may no longer be allowed inside

but from my position on the road

beneath the sky

watching with tear filled eyes

the house that sits where once you stood

The dream so fragile fades away

and you are gone

the world moves on

and stores the memory for another day

Victim of all that is wrong with this world

I am sorry I never rang

and now I never can

I miss you more than word can say

I think of you each single day

Goodbye my beautiful girl
