how do you know what goes on in my head

when you've never been there

and i'm a liar

and i won't tell you?

how do you know how my soul is decaying

when the paper is my only outlet

and i'll never drag you down with it?

how do you know what i really think of you

when i just smile and say i love you?

HOW DO YOU KNOW?

she understands.

i don't have to lie to her.

i don't have to pretend i'm fine,

and she doesn't have to pretend she's fine.

we don't have to pretend.

i don't have to say i got enough sleep

or i know i'm gorgeous

or i haven't cut in months.

she doesn't have to say she's on her meds

or that she slept at all

or that she hasn't had a date with the porcelain.

we understand.
