Little Big Heart

Little Big Heart

A Poem by Acropolix

It is said the heart
holds two chambers;
one to give love
and one to receive;

too long have I stared
at empty floors,
cracked walls crumbling
to dust at my feet;

too long have I felt
the cold in my bones,
a chill wind cutting
through the closed door;

too long have I labored
for a fire to burn,
too long have I given
my soul and solitude;

I have forgotten
the sound of laughter,
the scent of flowers
freshly picked in May;

I have lost myself
in this alien house,
the very air I breathe
bitter on my tongue.
