Goodbye

Goodbye

A Poem by bookworm47
"

A war sonnet written by me as a guy...

"

I told you I’d come back to you, my love,

A promise I’m afraid I cannot keep,

But I swear that I’ll watch you from above,

Vow to me my death would not make you weep,

But even if I returned to your arms,

I would never truly be there with you,

For even though your sweet perfume would calm,

I’d bring horrors of battle you never knew,

A cacophony of anger and rage,

I won’t forget, not even with you near,

But even with this war that we must wage,

I still go to sleep wishing you were here,

But even if I were to join the dead,

I’ll always love the girl I wished to wed.
