Bombs and Kisses

Bombs and Kisses

A Chapter by Taylor Crosby

Everything is a blur. People are starting to notice that something is wrong. All of the plane's system is down. We can't contact anyone for help. We are almost 10,000 feet in the air. We are alone. I pull my knees to my chest, and bury my head in them. What are we going to do? Think Sage, think. The pilot surely can take care of this. Right? I force myself to believe this. God, I can't imagine the hell that Jordan must be going through right now. It's is first time flying, and now we're being hijacked! Someone is yelling. The pilot.

"We have the system back to normal for now! You are now able to call or text someone, while I contact the airports nearby." He says onto the intercom. I whip out my phone and go straight to my home number in my contacts. I have to call them. I need to tell them what is going on. The phone is ringing....ringing. C'mon pick up. I think to myself. Finally there is a click, and breathing on the other end of the line.

"Hello?" Says a sweet, harmonic voice. My mother.

"Mom?" I say frantically.

"Sage honey! How's the flight going?"

"Not well." I answer, trying to keep calm.

"And why is that?" She asks me, oblivious to the fact that I might die. I take a deep breath. I have to tell her. She has to know why I called.

"Mom...I overheard two flight attendants, and one of them was speaking with the pilot. She said that we've been hijacked." I blurt out. I hear my mother take a sharp intake of breath.

"How far are you into the flight, sweetheart?" She asks me, the concern in her voice like a sharp knife slicing across my arm.

"About an hour and a half. Almost two hours." I reply, my confusion changing my tone. My mother says something, but it's muffled against my ear. We're losing the system again. "Mom, the system's going down. I can't talk anymore. I love you and dad so much. Please pray that I make it to Maine." I tell her, and I hang up quickly, not wanting to make the system weaker by using some of it's connection. I turn to Jordan. Fear is very visible in his dark brown eyes.

"Sage...what's going on?" He asks me, terror-stricken.

"Jordan, we've been hijacked." I tell him cautiously. Jordan's expression falls. "But let's not focus on that right now. Let's focus on other things...like....what have you always wanted to accomplish, but still haven't yet?" I ask him. This causes a small signature half smile to appear on his face.

"If I say so, you'll laugh at me." He says, grinning.

"No I won't." I assure him. He takes a deep breath.

"My first kiss." He answers. A huge smile appears on my face and I bite my lip, trying not to chuckle. "See, I knew you would laugh!" He says, throwing his hands into the air. His knuckles hit the overhead light. "Ouch!" He says, and then he bursts out laughing. I can't help but allow myself to do the same.

Don't think. Just do it, Sage.

I lean across my arm rest and give Jordan a small peck on the lips. He gives me yet another one of his charming halfway smiles.

"There. Mission accomplished." I say. Suddenly there is a commotion in the back of the plane. I stand up and look back. A whole bunch of people are back there; most of them flight attendants. I hear a ticking. My stomach twists into a thousand knots. What is that ticking. I know the answer even before it's yelled out for all the passengers to hear.

"It's a bomb!" Someone screams. I look at Jordan. His face is even paler than it was before. I didn't think it could get much more white. What are we going to do? Damn, I'm in this situation again?
