What you don't see

What you don't see

A Poem by kathy rivers
"

Sometimes you play a role so long that you forget who you really are...

"
Losing my mind right now
Grasping for control
But this time I won't win
I can feel it in my soul
The fog is taking over
The poison's taking hold
I could fight a little longer
But I already feel so cold...

Still, I listen for your voice
But this world is much too loud
How could I ever find
A single voice within a crowd?
You say I should be happy
And that makes me want to scream
You THINK my life is perfect
But things aren't always what they seem...

You don't know what really happens
What goes on behind my door
You don't see me fall apart
When I can't take it anymore
You don't know what's on my mind
You don't see behind my mask
Yet... I would tell you everything
If only... you would ask...

This offering is well rhymed and conveys an urgency that seems to portend an imminent breakdown. The speaker is apparently one who does not usually share intimate feelings, and now is paying the price for such detachment. I hope this one is not autobiographical.

We live in a shallow world full of shallow people who are too obtuse to look beyond the obvious, to know when one is hurting. At the same time, we are also afraid to share, to open, to reveal the heart of who we are. One doesn't look beyond the surface, the other wears a mask that paints him/her as he/she thinks others want him/her to be. We build walls within and without. This is yet another lovely and expressive right, a vulnerable question waiting to be asked; a willing answer waiting for permission to be released. Your voice is very mature for your age, which tells me you are very sensitive to the waves of life around you.

You convey your feelings well here. There are many who find it difficult to share with others. The sad thing is that often if you share it can help to alleviate the problem. Some choose to out on a brave face, wear a mask and others have no idea what they are going through. That can be lonely place to be. Nicely rhymed offering.
