The RainA Story by K.The clouds were a dark grey, but they looked so soft, almost like blankets you wanted to just curl up and fall asleep in. The thunder didn’t as much crack, but roll across the sky from the peaks to the forest. The water falling from the gutter clapped against the stone and the fragrance of the rain filled the air. The aspen leaves danced and whispered along. If the flowers had mouths, they would shout and laugh and take in the rain. The trees would shelters for those who hated the rain, and the puddles for those who didn’t care. The air became cold and ice fell from the sky. Mothers rushed their children inside for towels and hot chocolate. Families gathered on windowsills, drinking and watching as the ground turned white with hail. Doors opened and children watched with starry-eyes. Lightning cracked and the thunder turned into cackles; a dog ran wild with his tail between his legs, babies cried. Rain fell harder now as the hail subsided. The dry, white and black trees turned red with the water and everything seemed a little greener. Some doors closed but many still sat out on the threshold watching the masterpiece of God. The clouds became darker and dominated the sky, the white patches far and nearing Utah. The soil grumbled as water spilled into the street and rivers flowed onto the trails. Hail began to fall harder now in larger balls, and as you looked out, it looked like hard falling snow. Children begged their mothers to let them hold out cups for the ice. When their cups were full, they smiled as they poured in the Coke and drank it up. Those who still had their doors open felt the chilling mist and pulled on coats. Fog hung lazily over the peaks as the thunder boomed again. She stared at the sky, waiting for his call. She pulled her legs in, feeling the cold drops of rain on her legs. She knew she had a long night of waiting ahead of her; waiting for the rain to stop and waiting for his call. She shut the door. She was so tired of waiting.© 2013 K.Author's Note
