do i listen too well?

do i listen too well?

A Poem by V M Smith

i'm not listening to what you're saying
so much as how you say it
the words you choose
and where you pause
the truth is in the flaws

i've learned over time
that the liars all rhyme
in a slanted, mistaken way

split second emotions
that play across your face
subtle muscle movements
all give me a taste
of what's really on your mind
what it is you hide

bite your lip
and roll your eyes
you're not all that innocent
especially tonight
