Dreamless

Dreamless

A Poem by Debbie
"

Reference is to Artemisia I ruler of Halicarnassus

"

Dreamless

Let me then simply sink, velvet wrapped gentle

Without the animation and sounds of wounded things be

released from the crushing crack and crinkle of argued disappointments

where night becomes more seriously dark sitting on a throne

in the dead center of  Halicarnassus and I can

lay prone at the feet of its king

Prostrate, dreamless

I have been that naval commander

Attacking my own

Seeking in any way to escape

And what then does one do to remember the dead

When what was built on love remains
