A Poem by Bob Sherunkle
"

Short lived heartbreak

"
Swimming in tears back then, drowning in despair
Your attention was the spark to jump start my cold, rusting heart.

It didn't last long as usual, your sights set low,
Your brown eyes gave me a signal to let my self go and be brave.

You were lost and lonely and needed some one to hold,
I was the man,I thought, not bold or too old.

You laughed at my jokes, out of kindness I suppose,
It was special chapter,to be free and let go,but your heart was someone else's,
trying to figure out if you truly loved me..

All second guesses,so I move on into the cold,
no longer young,tread wearily,cheaply sold,
Seeing you the other day,you look tired and broken,
I watched you from a distance and smiled a broken hearted smile

You summed up the whole story very nicely in just a few words. It is always that heartbreak when we give ourselves to someone who needs us and then see them go once they're ok. But love is always a giver and so we still treasure the moments we have with the people who passed by our lives. I love this poem, Bob. Hearty and realistic as always. :)

The worst thing to do to another human being.....

Suddenly, the conservative traditions of my culture regarding love and courtship make sense.

So sad, Bob. To be used as a convenience while making her mind up about the one she thinks she really loves. This is a more common occurrence than you would credit. Some women just can't make up their minds. They're like the dog who drops the bone into the stream in an attempt to seize its reflection. In the end, there's only heartbreak for everyone.

Hello Jay! Many thanks for reading.

I've known women like this, much too much. It almost always stems from them not knowing what they want in life. The usual insecurities. Good read!
