Save me from myself

Save me from myself

A Poem by Bob Sherunkle
"

Despair is a strong undercurrent..

"
Before I drown in my self pity, swimming against my battle weary conscience,
the looks and charm have all but gone and so has the fight.

Pounded down by ideals and fable,
by people who only, truly care about themselves.

I am older than most, less wiser or smart,
vomited onto this rock with no idea or direction in faith or humanity.

Save me from myself,
before I lash out against the ones that truly care,
the ones that drag me up from this cruel despair.

I think your words, your poems save you not just from boredom but from some terrible ideas and criticisms that frustrates the human soul. It is always refreshing to read your words because of its honesty. Thank you for baring your soul every time. :)

Agreed Bob.
Bob, each time I read your work, you make me feel more guilty having all I have. I shall have to write another one after this....

Write from the heart, that's all that matters..you have what you have because you've earned it!

The above words are my prayers. I have kids who wake-up tire and have no energy. I babysit my Grand boys and I take them to parks and library. Parent sit by computer or play with their phones. Patience are a virtue. I need more. I like the complete poem. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

"and so has the fight"

I think for anybody who sees the things expressed in the rest of this poem and recognizes them, they can never truly be resigned. There's some fight left in this one, right between the lines.

Every day is a fight we think we'll lose..maybe that's part of the meaning of life..who knows.
Bob, this is a very touching poem, one I can identify with so easily. Despair, hopelessness, anger, all emotions we wish not to feel yet they are there waiting to grab us by the throat. A well written poem.
