Bar Room BelleA Poem by Bob SherunkleFloating into my life like a fly in my beer
Kicking and screaming like a newborn you were,
when I first adjusted my bleary, souless windows. Like a bright light cast, a fallen, forgotten angel, shining through the neon and swirling Pall Mall trails. Doll sized fists, cut and scarred. I am in love !..I thought. I have been searching for you all my miserable days, and here you are under my purple, ballooned honk. I buy you a drink, you growl and sneer. I say " Shut up...and drink your goddamn beer". You smile like a lion that's just been tamed, realising now,you have been claimed. I brush the straggle to show your face, Porcelin but cracked, white as snow, fair and innocent. You drifted away like a dead leaf in a river, swallowed by a strangers promises. I hope every time I walk through that door, you'll be there in a haze of smoke, shining like the last goddess on earth.
