Our Ruinous Romance

Our Ruinous Romance

A Poem by B.L.North

Our Ruinous Romance
You were a devastating mix
of a cyclone
and a warm Fall afternoon.
With you I was
a packed tear drop
of nitroglycerin.
Our happiness was as enduring
as a roadside flare,
a brilliance to cut through the darkness,
like a warning ending in ashes.
You and I built a relationship,
like a brick house,
made with foam imposters.
A sturdy farce for all to see.
Together we were
a dystopian hurricane raging
no louder than a whisper.
We ended,
like a passive argument
over lunch.

Great last stanza. Lunch. It's always lunch.
