Where death awaits: a soldier's vows

Where death awaits: a soldier's vows

A Poem by Jim Falcon

I jumped into the river
to drink the water from it's end.
I'm floating down the river
to where death awaits.

My love, don't wait for me,
keep the words that I have said
to you, and the prayers you say
for me, I will, till the end.

Low is the moon and high the tides-
it's not a time to hesitate.
I heed the vultures' call,
I'll answer them all,
from the river's end.

My instructions have been clear:
There's only one i need to fear
when i'll be ready to die,
and to kill too.

I'll always follow the stars,
fight for them in any war,
against the strange looking man,
and his god too.

For the children of men
who sleep sound at night,
I will follow the river
all the way to
where it ends;
I'll follow it down
to where death awaits.

I jumped into the river,
I'll drink the water from it's end
I'm floating down the river
to where death awaits.
