Fibonacci roots: The universe & Narcissism

Fibonacci roots: The universe & Narcissism

A Poem by Jim Falcon

I

“I”

An echo?

Who said that?

Only I can say “I”,

neither you, nor you, and definitely not YOU!

“Why”, one might ask,

did Narcissus die?

And who decided on distribution of rights?

One:

The universe. Many: galaxies, solar-systems, twinkling stars.

My Very Educated Mother Just Showed Us Nine Planets,

revolving around the Sun: some dull, others radiant.

Their moons never count. None sinister, no saints.

Up in dark space, there’s no pride,

no greed, nothing but beautiful life;

no mirrors to reflect

ego.

Once you’re through the atmosphere,

you see reflections in the oceans--

of Kings,

and men who chose lives of fear: slaves.

Proud

men who never looked at the sky... they separated.
