Strong As Steel

Strong As Steel

A Poem by Brittney Maxwell
"

I am taking a poetry class and we are currently learned of catalogue/list poems. I chose to list the places I have traveled.

"

“Strong as Steel”

I’ve seen architecture:

I’ve seen structures built since humans learned the need to expand, building pieces of history, blossoming like spring flowers.

My roots are embedded in the infrastructure of the world’s past.

I climbed up the towering windmills in Iowa, while I watched the sunset in the distance.

I have scaled the Eiffel Tower in France, palpating smooth steel under my toes.

I have ascended up the steps of Mont Saint Michele, feeling the blood pool through my veins.

I envisioned ancient gladiators and mighty battles within the Coliseum in Italy,

remembering every last drop of blood spilt under my feet.

I’ve seen architecture:

Strong, sturdy frameworks.

My spirit is as robust as the platforms I’ve mounted.
