Dark Places

Dark Places

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

In a dark place

Thinking about it all

How did I get here?

Who knows to care?

I’m in a dark place

I can’t see past my hands

I pray to be a better man

But you can never have who I am

I’m in a dark place

I hope that I can fight this on my own

But I would rather have you be my side

You took me to a place unknown

On the left side of the moons light

And gave me the chance to live or die

I’m in a dark place

I wish I could see your face

There’s nothing you could do

That would make me stop loving you

Just take my hand

And then I know we will make it through

I still pray to be a better man

I’m getting myself out of this place

I’m going to show my real face

I’m tired of running away

I’m tired of all the shame

And I’m getting all of the blame
