Down and Out

Down and Out

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

This is a true story of poor man soul

Caught in the web of the unknown

His whole world was astounded

Then it all got down and out

Simply just got wet and drowned

And there is no way to be founded

Finding a new way for him to break

Because you know he won’t ever give in to your change

He won’t go towards the voices that way

No madder how much he strains

You have him on those chains

So it’s too hard to break away

So make him live in these black days

Whisper the angry voice in his ear

That here and now is the fear

Make him look in the mirror

Afraid of his own disgrace

He looks away from the tears

He looks deep down inside

He knows that he has the fire

The fire to arise

But the chains hold him down

But he wants out

So he opens his eyes and believes

And makes his dreams come alive

Breaks free

And chokes the demon that put fear in him
