The Demon

The Demon

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

I scratch at my skin

I’m going crazy; I think there’s something in me

There’s a demon that’s my enemy

He lives within me

And now he has broken through to me

I don’t want anybody to get in my face

I’m the demon that will end your faith

Grab your crucifix, but it won’t stop your deathly fate

With no disgrace, he’s insane, you will obey

With the demon inside, I live with so much hate

I’m trying to fight fire with fire

The demon wants me to kill for his desires

He’s growing stronger; I might give in this time.

Now I’m burying the body of another life

I’m so dark, but I still have a little more fight.

I can feel the demon fight back

He is choking me; I can’t move.

As I turn blue, I make my attack.

How can I keep going when I know I will lose?

Tearing away at my skin,

I will defeat this enemy.

The demon’s falling apart.

You can’t have my heart.

I grab hold and let the demon go.
