Silence is to Pretend

Silence is to Pretend

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

My tears are words that my heart can’t say

My smile is to cover all this pain

My silence is to pretend I’m not hurting inside

I close my eyes forever

So that I can’t see these chains

I can’t sleep

I keep having this same nightmare

Your eyes sunken in so deep

My soul is where you start to tear

I scream and my voice is so bare

I can’t go on I’m so scared

I don’t believe this will ever change

It’s never okay

This smiles beginning to fade

In this broken hope

Is at the dead end of your home

Running away not letting go

I’m not your prisoner

I am not your slave

I’m not here

For you to fill me full of your own fears

You are so intoxicating

Getting high on everything you hate

I crash and I stumble

Every day is more of a struggle

As I hold this world I fumble

My pain doesn’t hurt

Putting your spells on me, I’m cursed

In this hell I forever burn
