Listen to Me

Listen to Me

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

How many times

Do I have to say?

That I’m not like you

You run away from your self

You like to live in your own hell

Just be somebody

I don’t care what they all say

I am who I am

I don’t need you to tell me that I’m a man

So I’m going to just be me

It just goes out one ear

And out through the other

But with your words you like to smother

But I have some words for you to hear

Don’t try to shrug them off

Because I will shove them back in

Maybe your lights will turn on

And the smothering will end

I think it is about time that I speak

The words that you need to hear

I have my own voice

And you have no fear over me

Tonight’s the night that I bring the noise

You will choke on your own words

And I will change the way you view me in this world

For my own sake

I’m going to say what I need to say

Now you hear me

Because your own voice is out of the way

Tonight I finally get to speak

But I’m never looking back again

Cause your words are now ashes in the wind
