Blue Veronica

Blue Veronica

A Poem by Cera Perry-Johnson

Blue Veronica,
that is what they called me.
I have a thing about the color
blue and Veronica is my middle
name.

I have a thing about vintage blue
jeans and band t-shirts that are faded
and wrinkled.
I'm a peculiar girl they say.

I talk to no one and I observe
everyone and everything.
I'm an introvert.
A shy, reticent, and typically self-centered person.
Though I am not self-centered.

I am a bulimic teenager whom
is in treatment.
I've been gone for a month.

When I get back they'll say:
"There's Blue Veronica. I wonder
where she was all this time."

They'll question me.
I'll lie.
Then they'll leave Blue Veronica
alone, to once again be by her lonesome
self.

And she won't mind.
Because that's just who she is.

This was just something I slapped down while watching The Fault In Our Stars. I believe that watching movies and listening to music while writing enhances your chances of writing something extraordinary and creative. I apologize if there is unacceptable punctuation and grammar.

I like that there is a kind of happy sadness to the poem. She is bulimic and alone but not entirely unhappy, or at least she does not say that. It is almost as if she suggests lonliness while trying to convince the reader, and herself maybe, that everything is fine. I don't know if that's what you intended but i really liked your poem.

Yes actually! You hit that spot on. She is trying to convince the readers and herself that she is ok.. read more
