Alive

Alive

A Poem by Austin Fern
"

Those we love won't always be there. That is a day I fear.

"

Alive

You’re alive.
Your aged heart still beats.

But for how much longer?

How much longer will you still be here?

Like a leaf in the wind,

You’re still gently flying on.

Your wind stream won’t last

and I fear the day you hit the ground.

Like an ancient relic,

you have survived through the years.

But eventually, you’ll return to dust,

and I’ll still be here.

Like a silent guardian,

You have stood vigil.

You've watched me grow and learn.

You've always been there.

You’re alive,

but I fear the day you won’t be.
