Forgive me

Forgive me

Forgive Me

I sit here surounded by the darkness
in the middle of a crowded room
it never leaves me, always lurking
for I know my time is coming soon

It comforts me like a blanket
like arms wide open, welcoming
no more suffering, tears or sorrows
just endless peace

I know I should run towards it
to end all of my pain
but the fear of the unknowing
makes me linger here in shame

but with each day I grow bolder
ready to face my fate
let the darkness over take me
unto the light I will not wait

A deep and controversial subject. I also do not believe in letting someone suffer in pain on life-prolonging equipment if that is their choice...or even letting one's self end up in situation, even if that means taking one's life. This poem is strong and emotional. I like the the flow of stanzas 1,3, and 4.. but you break rhyme scheme with stanza 2 (but then again I'm a sucker for a good rhyme).. I especially love the last stanza
" but with each day I grow bolder
ready to face my fate
let the darkness over take me
unto the light I will not wait " beautiful and almost calming as opposed to the lines above it that were scared and unsure. I like this.

This a very personal and ethnical question, which we must all ask ourselves, before the time comes to deal with this issue. There is no wrong or right answer to this question. Just a moral position. Honestly, if this was my situation, i would want the right to die with dignity and self-respect. If that means suicide, so be it. Having witnessed my dad's 14 year struggle with severe angina pain, which ended with us pulling the live-support equipment from him in 1998. Thank you for asking this very challenging question in your poem.

sometimes the mental/physical pain we deal with is too much to bear. who are we to judge if it is right or wrong. until someone is in a similar situation...they can not know what they would think or choose.
