Moonlight Lover

Moonlight Lover

A Poem by Brenden Taylor

The bad thing
about being a hopeless romantic
is that I paid too much attention
to words and intentions
and not enough attention
to actions and consequences.

For example,
the Moon can tell me she loves me,
and such a love would be worthless
because, as lovely as moonlight is,
nothing grows in it.

Moonlight often comes in
through the window
and lays with me in the bed
throughout the night,
flattering me with flirts and
teasing me with a future.

But she leaves me in the morning,
going off to be her true self
- nothing -
as far as I'm concerned.
