Freedom

Freedom

A Poem by Megan
"

Free from the clutches of a past relationship.

"
Freedom

I remember those days,

the photo albums laid out
in the forefront of my mind,
pouring out from deep within my heart.

Waiting by the phone for your call,
sitting at the bench for our date,
looking to you for love
that I so desperately needed.

Like a tragic ending to a blooming romance
the call never came,
the lovely dinner was eaten alone,
and the love sought so vehemently for
never budded.

Years later,
I see your name,
and the butterflies don't pound my chest.
No longer am I anxious for your call,
or hearing your voice that once soothed me.

No, years later, I am free.
Finally free to be happy just being me
without needing your love.
And free to embrace all the relationships
with which I've been blessed.

I can relate. Sometimes you just have to be away from someone for a while to figure out you never needed them to begin with. A little cliche' here and there but simplicity is better than obscurity when it comes to poetry (despite what professors might want you to believe).
