Momentary Emblem of Herself

Trepidation.
A scared nervousness felt countless times before.
In the wake of her mistakes,
her heart closes to anything and everything.
Her weaknesses exposed.
No one likes to be thought of as weak.
In her mind,
she is reverting back to old days.
Days of blood.
Days of anguish.
Days of guilt.

She wants one thing:
to be enough.
So she strives to achieve the happiness of others,
approving glances cast in her direction.
But in the process,
she lost the one thing impossible to lose:
herself.

months, years, decades ago
make up her new reality
but only for a moment,
a short time.
For in the next instance
a flash of her new growth
will overcome her mind and soul.
And her strength will come back
to be who she has become.

this process a constant battle for her,
once-in-a-while coming back
threatening to overtake forever
like it did once in a lifetime long ago.

but it's no longer her new reality
for more than a moment,
for in the instance where she remembers who she is
she has enough strength to overcome herself,
the part of her who tries to take her down.
