recalling thoughts

A Poem by Jeanie O'brien

A carnival in the field just outside of town

Working men loading up while the rain was falling down

Slowly drifting off to sleep after crying for a while

One more disappointment without a happy smile

Windmills turning in my mind gathering hope inside

Memories of a childhood still flashing up inside

Worries no longer needed, adulthood took their place

Realizing all that happened in a child’s growing race

Registered in a quiet book, moments that can’t be shared

While knowing there was someone who showed how much they cared

Now wishing things were different while slowly moving on

Full of independence to help me carry on

A lifetime to remember, a lifetime to forget

I won’t make that decision, I'll let destiny handle it
