an ode to my daddy

an ode to my daddy

A Poem by sette
"

self proclaimed daddy's girl

"

I want to thank you,

For loving me unconditionally,

Despite my whims and whinings,

You understand me.

I remember the time,

When I was just two years old,

A toddler beginning to walk,

Money was so tight then.

But you want me to ride

The carousel,

You borrow from a friend,

Money to take me to a carnival.

It was memorable,

Because you carry me

Piggy-back and I was like

Riding my rocking horse.

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho,

I was having a good time,

Eating cotton candy,

And riding the carousel.

From then on,

The bond stays on,

I am the daddy’s girl,

And proud of it too.

The night before

I got married,

Asked me if I will

Go through with it,

I said,

“Yes, Daddy”,

I can now take care

Of myself.

With tears in his eyes,

He brought me to the

Altar to be with my

Mis-destined one.

Daddy was right.

He told me,

He is not the right guy,

He will just kill my spirit.

Marriage fail

After barely two years,

I was back to my senses,

Has to grow up wisely.

Dad, you have been there

Through every pain and joy,

No matter what the odds are,

I fear not,

I know my relationships fail,

Because I was looking

For someone like you,

Someone who can be you.

But then,

Here I am in my forties,

I know I never grow up

When it comes to love.

Neither am I looking

For one,

There are many things

I would rather do.

Than be with a man

Who is not like you

Who will just make me cry,

And who will hurt me.

Never mind,

My daddy,

I will just be here

To care for you.

That is filial piety

In a nutshell,

Thanks to Confucius,

Now I understand.

it makes me so emotional where I find myself at many turns of this poem..Truly I too feel that it is a dream of every girl to have a life partner from whom she gets the shadow of her father..it speaks out my heart..I just love it
