seven gifts

seven gifts

A Poem by sette
"

how the seven gifts healed me

"

In the book, Summa Theologica

by Saint Thomas Aquinas,

a scholar and philosopher

during the time where people were losing faith.

He mentioned the role of

the Holy Spirit in one’s life.

as part of the Blessed Trinity,

Three persons and one God.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit

handed to us for free

no conditions and no limitations,

seven gifts absolutely free.

Around September of last year,

was considered to be the most traumatic

for me,

I thought I had faced the death’s door.

Friends and family,

are caught wondering,

what happened to the bubbly me?

was it the end for me?

I have no one to hold on to,

I was weak in mind and body.

my spirit was following suit.

I know I am at my wit’s end.

The Holy Spirit did not allow it,

He gave me the seven gifts to cherish

He gave me the seven gifts for free.

He gave me the seven gifts out of love.

Starting with WISDOM,

he healed me with the WILL  to survive,

though the mind and body are weak,

the spirit stays strong to fight.

Next he gave me UNDERSTANDING,

that I have to accept that it is the

will of God to give me this dilemma

and have to face it strongly.

Another gift was COUNSEL,

convincing myself that it is the plan

of God that I can’t question,

fight off the doubts.

The gift of FORTITUDE  comes next,

the courage to win this battle,

the will power to survive

with His guidance.

Another gift was KNOWLEDGE,

that there is no other supreme

being but HIM alone,

without faith, knowledge is nothing.

PIETY  is another gift to cherish,

the respect and reverence

for His great love for us,

for His power over us.

and lastly, the FEAR OF THE LORD,

that healing should start with Him,

that every weakness offered to Him,

that every strength is for Him.

With all these Seven Gifts for free,

will we still get lost in our way?

i like the non-rhyming quatrains and the contrast of closing with a couplet ...i think it lends strength .. and what a surprise i had right off ... as you refer us to ST. Thomas Aquinas and the teachings of the Catholic Church on the Holy Spirit of God ... i was raised Catholic so very easy to relate ... and the honest human conditions you take us through brings me,in reading, to that knowledge of my own need ...if we start with fear of the Lord (a healthy fear) and use the wisdom that brings ... we come to the knowledge of both our great lacking ... and need ... collapsing in God's hands the most blissful surrender one can experience .. knowing in trust that Gods hands are so adequate ... really blessed in reading Sette ... i have subscribed to your stuff and will try to stay current with you ;) peace and joy!
