He Who Haunts MeA Poem by Lea Jane...the shadow on the wall...
It rests there upon the wall, Glaring daggers back at me. That devious-looking shadow, Has become all that I can see. He moves faster than the wind, Travels at the speed of light. He’s with me through the day, And haunts me all the night. He grows until he towers, High above my head, And though I grow weary and tired, He keeps me from my bed. He’s like a troublesome nightmare, A burning darkness in my soul. A monster from the depths of hell, With eyes of blackened coal. I’m sure it’s just my shadow, But still I can’t help but wonder, Why is it when I speak aloud, My voice booms like thunder? This thing looks nothing like me, With his short and choppy hair, I can almost picture his evil smile, A wicked grin I cannot bear. It’s been seven days now, I’m becoming ill. I’m frightened beyond my wits, And he hands to me a pill. And in his hand appears a blade, Raised high above his head. And before I’m able to stop myself, I drop to the floor… dead. © 2008 Lea Jane |
