Runners

Runners

A Story by Deborah G. Adams

I am beneath your soul.
I can break you down or lift you up. I am right here, behind your back, watching you breathing, hearing you running in your sleep.
Silence is never an answer but a question to who we are, who we are behind those sheets.
Runners.
I've seen you running, most of them don't, but you do, and you do it well. Not afraid of sweating, not scared of falling. I've seen your scars, your thick skin, your dark eyes, your walls.
You are running, still.
I'm running next to you, not sure if you will ever know, not sure if you smell my fear of breaking your walls.
I know who you are, a runner, a loner in this crowd, I've came to make sure your boundaries will be knocked down.
