Football Fright Night

Football Fright Night

A Poem by Maddox
"

English assignment that I really got into

"
Ice drops down from a frozen sky
Fake smiles long drifted away
Seconds pass and he lets the ball fly
While rain soaked gloves freeze our fingers

We're called to play with frozen
metal notes that rattle and die
Frozen and numb, our fingers slip
Noise is hard but the songs drown

Cleats sink in the town field and mud
Helmets crack and crash together
Noise and cheers faker in the flood
Stands slowly empty as people leave

Forced to sit in constant rain
Light splits the black frozen sky
Clouds open and drive us insane
Five minutes left, the game is stopped

Angrily we trudge inside
hating that we sat through it all
Everybody scrambles to find a ride
Steak and Shake is where we all go

Missing flip-flop, barefoot, then Graham's shoes
an adventure just to get inside
The waiter laughs and hands us menus
We're a sight to be seen, us band geeks
