I Gave Myself Peace

I Gave Myself Peace

A Poem by Belle

A voice from the dark yells out:

‘Serve yourself justice!’

But to respond like his way

Is, the same way, murdering my own self;

God did not make me to make my own death,

either to make the death of others.

A voice from the dark whispers:

‘Give yourself peace.

The bruises encompass my understanding.

The unseen wounds

they encompass my entirety.

None can ever comfort me

except silence,

But to be sheltered by silence, to remain

in pain is not peace.

Peace, I realize, is absence of violence

in the middle of conflict.

So, I am giving myself peace

the justice I deserve.

I feel this may be about a personal relationship. But on a larger level, I would like to see an entire world with a complete absence of violence. Unfortunately we have some players in the game of life who don't respect the rules. They want to take advantage of others, take away their freedom, their lands and their rights as human beings to exist. "Sī vīs pācem, parā bellum" "If you want peace, prepare for war." Because for evil to triumph does not require that good men become evil. It only requires that good men do nothing.
