Searching (Dreamrunner)A Poem by Karleem JohnsonI had a haunting dream that was pretty much a description of my life so far, so i decided to write it.The fire burns slow in my eyes, as I reach for the skies, the ground slipping away, as I cry your name, shadows come, seeking my soul to claim, I grab ahold of my dreams, but the truth knocks me down, deep into the black depths. I run, faster and faster, searching always searching. since I was born, always trying to find my place, the road is blocked by many mirrors, and each one holds a face, every face is a person that I've brought to an early fate, they scream and claw at me, voices raw from vengeful hate. Run, searching like always, into the fast flowing river, too fast to swim, too thick to float, against the sharp rocks of addiction I crash, hope is dead to me, until I deal with my past, confront the angry screams, the hated faces, the deep rooted fears, cleansed by my own regretful tears. The light above beckons me, but deep in the grime i cannot reach, I climb to the light, against those sharp peaks, climb and climb until I bleed, so close, I can feel it on my face, no, life throws it's thunder, knocking me flat on my face, back into the darkness. Searching, always searching. © 2014 Karleem Johnson |
