My Angel

My Angel

A Poem by Karleem Johnson
"

A poem dedicated to the love of my life, Angelita

"

Embedded in the disgusting

mud of failure,

of sadness and pain,

lasing out with violence

and rage,

fighting simply to keep

my head up,

sinking below over and over.

You appeared as a Angel,

filling my heart and mind,

becoming the only thing i desired,

your wings untouched

by the filthy mire,

you grabbed my by the shoulders

and pulled me higher.

Those still stuck in that

godforsaken muck snarled,

they yelled in loathsome hatred

at your divine intervention,

they fought to pull me down,

said "No longer is he our brother,

he has forsaken us for another!"

They clawed and cut,

but still you gave no f*cks,

you pulled me free,

and showed me what the word

"Love" means,

you teach me how to

thrive,

so that one day,

me and you,

together,

can fly.

Author's Note

Karleem Johnson
When i met my love, she stopped me from doing a lot of self destructive things.
She helped me get off drugs, showed me how to calm down and think, and made me throw my guns and knives in the river. Right now i am clean and trying to get my education and a job, this poem is dedicated to her.
