Science vs Magic 2 The Nighthunterz DemiseA Story by Karleem JohnsonMy second Science versus Magic story. Gabe was just leaving his friend's party, when things take a strange turn of events.Gabe sped down the highway, going as fast as he could on his black Ducati, his long dark hair whipping in the wind. He glanced at the red eyed shady figures that ran behind him, keeping perfect pace, as he remembered how all this started. He had been leaving Brody’s party when out of nowhere a foot slammed into his side, sending him skidding across the pavement; he barely made it to his bike in time. “Where ya’ going boy? We just wanna’ talk!” A husky voice yelled with a laugh, bringing his attention back to the here and now. The headlights on his bike revealed a group of the shady figures standing in the road ahead, one of them smiled, raised its hand, and then yanked it to the side, causing Gabe’s bike to jerk sideways, skid across the asphalt and send him careening over the edge of the highway. As he fell everything seemed to move in slow motion, he could see the city lights twinkling in the beautiful night, the creatures stepping almost leisurely over his bike, and then, as his body turned, he could see the charred crater that sped towards him at an alarming rate, he hit the soft charred dirt and rolled towards the center, painfully skidding to a halt. A soft light pulsed in the center of the crater, bathing everything in a gentle blueish white hue. The light seemed to call out to him, and he began to slowly crawl towards it, his shattered bones stabbing him with every movement. The closer he got to the source of the light the less his body hurt, as if the light was numbing him, by the time he reached it he was able to stand, even though he was still bleeding profusely. The glowing object was a small orb, and it was much brighter up close; it seemed to be swarming almost, like a mass of tiny insects. As he closed his fingers around its cool surface his body began to tingle and the orb began to flash and sizzle icily in his hand. His fist closed around it and blinding bright neon blue lights began to strobe and pulse from it. Lines made of light began to draw themselves in his skin and down his throat, as the ground began to crack and rise around him. Dust swirled around his body,as he screamed, the lines of light tracing themselves into his eyes. His motorcycle flew into the vortex along with random chunks of metal and wire from the power lines, something resembling a spine made of razorblades and electric shot from the orb and impaled itself into Gabe’s neck then slithered down and wrapped around his spine as the orb grew. Thick bands of sinewy neon blue muscle exploded out of the orb and burrowed into his arm and chest, then quickly slithered into the rest of his body. Gabe’s scream was quickly lost in the loud roar of the vortex as it picked up speed and began to flash. The Nighthunterz stared in curiosity and wonder at the flashing swirling dome where the boy used to be. “’Ay! The hell is that man? The f*ck is he doing? Is he some kind of wizard? I thought they were all dead! ” One of the members commented as he picked at his fangs with a claw nervously. “I dunno…but I’m hungry! I say we go in as soon as this thing goes away, before Vince kicks our asses…” Replied another as he adjusted his machete. Another of the hunterz recorded the flashing, swirling dome with her phone. “Whatever this is brethren…..it can’t be good, mark my words.” She said as she pulled another phone out and began snapping pictures. The phones began to shake in her hands and then they whipped into the vortex, followed by the rest of the hunterz electronics and guns. “Well f*ck me sideways! Looks like things just got serious!” She said as she watched small pieces of scrap metal and change rattle along the ground and launch themselves into the vortex. “Indeed.” A accented smooth male voice replied from behind her, a collective gasp came from the hunterz. “V-Vince! When did yo- we were jus-” “Save it!” Vince said firmly, adjusting his blade. “What in the hell is that thing? Is that the Yamada boy we were hunting?” Vince asked curiously. “MIRA, BOSS!! I CAN SEE IT!!” Vince and the Nighthunterz stared, confused, at the lone figure in the crater. Softly pulsing blue lines ran through its black armored body as energy softly crackled off of its back and the blade it held. It raised its head, and stared through its split visor. Dark clouds began to swirl in the sky, swollen and heavy with rain, Vince growled, baring his fangs involuntary, something didn’t feel right. Gabriel rose; he detected a large group of inhumans, a quick scan of the area revealed ten beings. “Processing, processing, processing complete.” Gabriel spoke in a monotone. “Ten humans, infected with an unknown viral contaminant….conclusion….full extermination.” Energy crackled from his body as he ran to the crater wall at an incredible speed and leapt into the air, smashing down in the middle of the Nighthunterz. They all leapt back, hissing, as they drew their weapons. “Orders boss?” Vince’s fanged mouth stretched into a wide grin. “You heard the man… exterminate!” The swollen moon shone faintly through the dark storm clouds, revealing the pale grey skin and the skulls tattooed on the faces of the Nighthunterz, they rushed at Gabriel with superhuman speed, their fangs bared and their crimson eyes burning. Gabriel ducked under a punch and kicked out; sending a hunter careening into the air, then twisted and slammed his fist into another’s chest. A hunter caught him in the chest with both feet, and another brought a studded mace down onto his plated chest, Gabriel’s body pulsed brightly as he shot along the ground and then into the air. Large neon blue slits and four crackling blue panels spread open in and on his back; Gabriel took off leaving a faint blue trail behind him. “AFTER ‘IM HUNTERZ!!!” Vince yelled. The Nighthunterz leapt into air, their skin and muscle expanded and thickened along with their teeth, as large leathery wings grew from the Nighthunterz backs, causing most of their clothing to explode form their bodies. They launched into the air with savage whoops and hollers that turned into snarling growls. “Warning, warning, infected humanoids approaching” A genderless voice sounded in Gabriel’s head. Almost as soon as Gabriel heard the voice a heavy clawed hand slammed into the side of his head, and sharp talons clamped on his left arm. He sent an electric charge through his body, dislodging the hunterz, pulled his glowing blade from his back, and beheaded one of the hunterz. Its body exploded in a fiery mess as its brethren hissed with hatred and closed in. Vince watched the fight from the ground, leisurely flitting from rooftop to rooftop, as he stared a bright blue flash lit the clouds up momentarily and then three more balls of fire exploded in the night sky. He ground his teeth; this battle was not going well….he’d have to finish it. He wrenched a pipe from the wall of the nearest building and took careful aim, and then, with a grin, launched his weapon. Gabriel had a clear shot at the last hunter; he raised two of his fingers, crackling with energy, and took aim. A smirk crossed his face underneath his helmet, these creatures had hunted him, and now they were the hunted. A faint whistling noise from his left got his attention, something was approaching…fast. He whipped his head to around to face this new threat and a lead pipe crashed into his head, smashing his helmet from his head and whipping his body sideways. A strong pair of booted feet slammed into his chest, pushing him through the roof of an abandoned factory and then through a rusted walkway. “Come on, get up bastardo luminoso …” Vince said as he pulled his sword from its sheath “It’s no fun if you don’t stand, I still have to repay you for killing most of my TEAM!” Vince slammed his foot into Gabriel’s ribs with the last word, launching Gabriel across the room and through a closed steel door. “Uscire uscire il piccolo pungere..” Vince whispered as he slowly closed in on the room. A bright blue blot of energy shot from the room into Vince’s chest, blowing him backward, Gabriel walked slowly out as he removed the last pieces of his armor, revealing pale muscle, interspersed with light and wires. His spine was clearly visible, with pulsing blue diodes running its length, shiny serrated blades grew out of his shoulders and elbows, his hair was a silvery white and his eyes as blue as the energy crackling from his body, Gabriel drew his crackling blade. “POTRAI PAGARE PER QUESTO!!!” Vince shouted as he exploded from the shadows with a dense flock of red eyed bats, thick black wings ripped his punk skull vest from his body as his eyes burned red. He tackled Gabriel, smashing him through the wall and into the crisp night air; Gabriel stabbed his blade deep into Vince’s shoulder and kicked off from his body, firing a bolt of energy. Vince banked right and slammed his palm at Gabriel, smashing him into a red Durango, bolts of energy shot from Gabriel’s body onto the Durango, wrenching it into armor around his body, and a large cannon around his right hand. Gabriel jumped to his feet and began blasting charged pieces of metal at Vince, who ducked and dodged the best he could, Vince wrenched the blade from his shoulder and threw it into Gabriel’s arm cannon, shredding it, then drew his own blade and shot towards Gabriel with a loud hiss. Gabriel pulled the blade from his now useless cannon, letting cannon and the armor fall apart, and then met Vince’s blade with his own. Their swords burned red hot as they traded blows so fast they seemed to blur together, Vince ducked under Gabriel’s blade and caught him in the stomach with a well placed kick, Gabriel used the momentum to launch himself into the air, and flew back into battle. Showers of sparks fell from their aerial battle as they ascended into the clouds. “Give up È poco lucido idiota! You can’t beat me! IO SONO UN MASTER VAMPIRO!!!” Vince shouted as he parried a blow and impaled Gabriel’s shoulder. Gabriel shot up further into the clouds, charged, and then slammed his palms toward Vince, huge bolts of lightning cracked from the clouds and slammed into Vince’s body, knocking him out of the sky, as electricity gathered on Gabriel’s blade and he charged in for the final blow. “ Almost there…almost there…” Gabriel muttered under his breath, a second before his charged blade met the master vampire’s chest something large and dark slammed into his side and a blade slid under his ribs. Gabriel swung his crackling blade and cut the last Nighthunter in half, then pulled the dagger from between his ribs, Vince was nowhere to be seen. Gabriel scanned, and then scanned again, nothing. He shook his head with a sigh and began to fly home; his brothers would never believe him… Vince watched Gabriel leave from the shadows, this wasn’t over, he swore on his fangs, he would have Gabriel’s head, the Nighthunterz NEVER lost a target. © 2014 Karleem JohnsonAuthor's Note
