Daki's DestructionA Story by Karleem JohnsonA short story that i may or may not make into a series. The night is cold and breezy, gauzy clouds waft in front of the full moon as the royal guards walk the expensive, elaborate carriage through the dark forest. A flash of silver shoots through the darkness, sliding deeply and silently into one of the royal guard’s neck, another sleek silver blade slips out of the darkness and slides through another guard’s neck, severing his head. The two remaining guards tore off their robes and drew thick, heavy silver blades with clawed hands as their bodies grew and coarse black hair shot up over their skin. Their noses and mouths grew into razor toothed snouts while their muscles grew and their bones cracked. Their groans quickly turned to snarls as four red eyed black clad figures shot out from between the trees, silver blades glinting in the moonlight and ready to cut. Two more of the wolf guards leapt from the carriage, changing in mid-air and joining the fight. The four figures seemed to be made of shadow, every blade, claw, and club missed them by inches as they darted around. A wolf fell headless to his knees as one of the figures launched into a complicated flip, beheading one more and disemboweling another. The last wolf guard threw his heavy blade, impaling one of the figures through the chest into a tree, and he fought like the beast he was. The figure on the tree gave a piteous squeal and burst into bright flames, as the wolf took down one more vampire. Five more black-clad vampires darted from the trees, circling the wolf; he shook, roared and launched himself with a final howl. The vampires approached the carriage, carefully drawing their weapons. “Exit with your arms above your head and we will kill you quickly. Fight…and it will be slow.” An accented female vampire shouted to the carriage as her comrades closed in, the carriage rocked and a very young man with a long dark Mohawk of dreadlocks stepped out. He was light brown with dark, spotty, splotches on his shoulders, back, and neck, his well muscled loin clothed body seemed to shine in the moonlight, as one of his pointed pierced ears cocked to the side. “I don’t think that I heard you filthy bloodsuckers right…..it sounded like you were trying to get ME to surrender…when YOU should be.” He said with a fearsome smile, his sharp bright white teeth stood out in the darkness. “Hm! We will show this DOG how the masters of the night surrender.” The vampiric female hissed through her gritted fangs. The man chuckled, a bloodthirsty glint in his golden-brown eyes. “Yess… sshow me!” He hissed back, his black tongue flicking in and out of his mouth. The vampires rushed forward with blades drawn, as the man leapt in the air and spun quickly, his claws shredding the necks of four vamps. His leg shot out and broke a vampire’s ribcage with a savage kick; and a second kick sent one of the vampire’s rib bones into his heart, the man laughed loud and high, his golden eyes burning in the darkness, every move he made proved fatal. He whipped two of the heavy sliver blades that had been held by the wolf guards around with ease, every vampire who attacked ended up a pile of ashes and charred bones. He stood face to face with the last of the vampires, the female who called out before. “Now do you surrender?” He asked, triumph evident in his voice. She hissed and drew her silver longsword, her eyes glowing red with fury. “NEVER!!! DIE YOU FILTHY DEMONIC MUTT! I’LL SEND YOU BACK TO THE HELL YOU CRAWLED FROM!!!!” Her movements were a blur, an incredibly fast flurry of attacks and yet the man still dodged or blocked every one with a smile. She swung and hit empty air where he should’ve been, her eyes widened, she was known in all the land for her speed. “Behind you.” A voice whispered, she spun around right into the man’s palms as he slammed them into her chest, driving every ounce of breath from her body. The man smiled and spun so quick she almost didn’t see it, his foot slammed into her face, smashing her against a tree. He walked to her and leaned down into her face, his breath smelled of cloves and sulfur as he whispered. “I’m NEVER going back…..say hello to the rest of the demons for me” His black scaled tail whipped around behind his back as he stood, it curled, arced, and then shot into her heart, flames erupted from her chest and engulfed her body. Daki collected the silver weapons and walked back to the carriage then climbed inside. The delicate guardian sat across from him, his wide hazel eyes tearing up and his soft lips trembling. “Calm down Alexander, it’s all over now. And we’ll be there soon.” Daki said as he patted the young monk on the shoulder and sat. “Did you have to kill them? ALL of them?” Alexander asked, his grey brown wolf ears poking through his straw blonde hair. “Yes, it was necessary.” Daki said as he snapped his fingers, the carriage lurched on, rolling softly but quickly through the moonlit forest. © 2014 Karleem JohnsonReviews
