You

You

A Poem by Karleem Johnson

You cut me and

get angry when i bleed,

break me and get annoyed

when i scream,

shake me and

and get angered by

my fall,

you rip me to shreds and

wonder why i'm

hesitant to approach

when you call,

i've begged you to treat me right,

or don't treat me at all.

I cater to your every need,

and what i cannot provide for you,

i struggle to achieve.

They say that i should leave you alone,

but i know that i love you

and i know that i won't.

You refuse to let me forsake

this life,

but yet you continually

twist this knife

deep, DEEP into my psyche.

I feel as if i'm always cowering,

waiting for you to strike,

and when you do,

it's the sweetest pain,

soothing me while it drains.

So do what you will,

i'm too strong to kill,

but too weak to defend,

treat me as you always have,

and it will be as it's always been.
