Look Into Me

Look Into Me

A Poem by Karleem Johnson
"

This is my poem of defiance to my condition....i REFUSE to succumb to it

"

Look into me,

tell me what you see.

Do you see the pain

and frustration,

or the shame and humiliation?

Look into my eyes,

deep into my soul and

tell me what you feel,

do you feel the impending doom,

the ever present gloom

that hovers over me

like death in the dark ages?

Do you see what causes all

the rages,

do you see what

triggers the stages?

Listen to my heart,

do you hear it's failing

beat,

do you hear my body dying

even as it forces me

to my feet,

can you hear the

deathly

rattle and wheeze

when i speak?

Now look into my mind,

do you see that flickering flame?

That steadily burning fire?

It may not look like much

but that's my burning desire,

that's my hope,

that's what keeps me alive,

that little flame

that's my drive.
