Leon's RageA Story by Karleem JohnsonJust a short story that i free-styled.Leon ran through the city, clutching Neia’s small purple body to his chest, the streetlights reflecting off of his sweaty brown skin, he didn’t have time to care about the people who stared at him like he was crazy. Something whizzed past his head and caught a man in the throat, spraying blood everywhere, Leon ignored it and ran on, he had to get to the checkpoint; he couldn’t let those monsters get their claws on Neia. He noticed a brief glint out the corner of his eye and ducked into an alley just as the brickwork where he had been standing was shredded by various knives and shuriken, he ran in the back of a alley and into a abandoned apartment. A tall Chinese man wearing padded body armor stood there. “Why is the moon full?” Leon asked with a hint of impatience in his voice. “I don’t know; go and ask the Old Man by the river.” The Chinese man answered in perfect English. “So you’re the delivery man.” Leon said. “Here, take her, they’re almost here.” He handed Neia to the Delivery Man, her green hair spilled around her bright yellow eyes as her black lips quivered. “Please to be safe!” She said, a single neon blue tear rolling down her hello kitty nightgown. “I will, now go!” Leon answered. The Delivery Man picked Neia up and ran through the other side of the apartment as Leon turned and began to walk the way he had come in. He could hear the sound of tires squealing away along whoops and hollers. Four bodies dropped down from above as black armored mercenaries poured into the alley wearing nightvision goggles. All in all, Leon counted nineteen, he cracked a smile; he’d faced worst odds before. "Where's the girl?" A raspy voice hissed as its occupant stepped into the sickly yellow-orange streetlight. It had dark grey skin and silver white hair shaved in a buzz cut; its eyes were wide black orbs, reminding Leon of a hungry shark. Dark tribal tattoos ran down its well muscled arm to its yellow clawed fingers. Its teeth were thin and very sharp, the canine teeth were wider and longer than the rest, it wore a black wife beater and black and grey camouflaged cargo pants with black combat boots. "Away from you, that's where!" Leon spat as he began to roll his neck and stretch. The mercenaries jumped back as the other three creatures stepped into the streetlight beside their partner. Leon began flexing his fingers and cracking his knuckles, the creatures would've looked exactly alike if not for the varying tattoos, two were male and two were female. "Don't be that way! Just tell us and we'll be on our way, we'll even let you live!!" One of the females said with a mocking tone apparent in her voice. Leon clenched and unclenched his fists, feeling the tautness of his bare skin over his knuckles as he spoke; "Don't do me any favors." The second female waved a hand and the mercenaries began pouring into the alley in front of her. "Earn your money guys and gals!!!" Leon watched them come as he slammed his palms together, red energy begin to ripple from him and his shirt exploded off of him as his muscles began to swell. The energy began to coalesce into hard grey-black stone suffused with molten orange cracks on his arms and his chest, his eyes began blazed red as he shot into the fight, punching a mercenary's nightvision goggles into his brain and catching another one in the neck with enough force to completely shatter his trachea. Leon moved with astonishing speed and strength, felling several mercenaries in several seconds, and then kicking one so hard that it blew a hole in his body armor, his feet seemed to locate a lot of chests, necks, and heads. The creatures watched with a mixture of revulsion and grudging respect. "I can't take it anymore!! NEVER SEND A MORTAL TO DO A DEMON'S JOB!!" One of the males shouted as he leapt into the fight. His tawny yellow claws missed Leon's throat by mere inches and Leon's foot snapped into his chest, then his chin, then the side of his head, the Creature rolled away and leapt onto the brick wall of the alley, and then launched himself at Leon with a snarling roar. Leon spun, meeting the airborne creature's face with his stone covered elbow as the three other creatures leapt into the fight. Leon dodged or blocked every blow, landing plenty of his own. More mercenaries piled into the alleyway as Leon dropped foe after foe. "GET HIM ALREADY!!!" One of the creatures shouted as the remainder of the mercenaries and the remaining creatures piled on Leon, punching and kicking. A searing bright red blast of energy sent them all flying and exploding out of the alleyway. Leon walked on; his braids had come out of his ponytail and hung free around his neck and chest. Runes burned red hot on his arms and his chest, matching his eyes. He walked to the last of the creatures squirming on the ground, glanced down, and sent his foot crashing down on its neck with a sickening crunch. He heard the helicopters before he saw them, sleek black military vessels. He took one last glance at the picture of Neia, put it away, and then began to run straight at the helicopters. Leaping twenty-five feet into the air with a defiant roar, and firing beams of sizzling hot red energy from his hands. Then, as the helicopters exploded, he landed in the midst of the mobilized unit that would have accompanied the earlier creatures. Leon moved so fast he appeared as a red blur, taking out waves of enemies with each movement, never letting one enemy unit past him. Jets began to fly in from the same direction as the helicopters. "If I'm going to die, I'll do it protecting those that I love!" Leon shouted as he shot into the air, his skin glowing white hot. Leon screamed in agony and then didn't scream at all as the entire area and all the tanks, soldiers, helicopters, fighter jets, and experimental soldiers surrendered to his white hot fury. "The unexplained explosion could be seen and felt as far as three states away, at this point officials say they are not sure what caused it, but a full scale investigation will be launched." Neia watched the newscaster with neon tears in her eyes. She knew what caused it, as did Adam, her "Delivery Man". Her body shook with the force of her anguished sobbing. She stopped sniffling as she remembered when Leon had told her that sniffling solved nothing. She would solve this...but not by sniffling. "They took my big brother from me; I'll take their world from them." She thought as she clenched her tiny fists. She shook again, but not with sadness, with rage. "Yes, I'll get them…but in due time....they WILL fall!" She stared at the picture of her and Leon at the beach...they'd get theirs.
