FreedomA Poem by Karleem JohnsonWe are free to speak, but no one listens, in neighborhoods where morning dew and fresh blood glisten, children starve while new babes are being christened, we are free to speak but no one listens. We look to the Doctors, to describe and prescribe us, ingesting the poison that they give to fix us, while the poisons themselves slowly kill us. Those who scream for change, can't seem to band together, meanwhile the rest of us fear and cower, brother against brother, and mother against father, but we'll all be the same in the final hour. We realize that things are bad, and that change must come, but we've no idea how to spark it and let change burn, and to those of us who shy away from the issues, what will you do when it's your turn? We attack those who are different, their feelings we spurn, we shoo them away, call them names, taking no time to consider how much they hurt. Deny them help, because we aren't them and they aren't us, but would they do the same? All of our arguing and fighting are in vain, we are ALL human, and we all have one heart and one brain, you treat your family with love, why can't you treat your neighbor the same? © 2013 Karleem JohnsonFeatured Review
