Rose Petals

Rose Petals

A Poem by Karleem Johnson

Oh little rose petals,

lying crushed in the street,

who dropped you down so carelessly,

beneath uncaring feet?

Once you were so pretty,

and you smelled so sweet,

now you're looking sickly,

and you smell of bitter defeat.

You could've been a token,

of love so pure and deep,

you could've made someone's day,

or from happiness made a lover weep,

instead i see you lying there,

looking dirty, used, and cheap.

Once you were a little bud,

just as happy as can be,

your journey from there to here,

is one i'd like to see.

Poor little petals,

crucified by life,

i wonder how many people,

share the story of your strife.

Thank you :D
I enjoyed the poem. I like how you balance real life with the broken flowers. World is different. Few people see the people and the beauty that is near. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
