Uphill

A Poem by blackbelief

I remember,
I rode my bicycle uphill and decided to pedal to the top.

I remember exhaustion and pain,
some more of it and the numbness that came after it.

I remember not having the strength to spit when sweat got in my mouth,
because any moment of not breathing meant I would die.

I remember telling myself to stop, not really understanding why I was doing it,
cursing my legs that had gone numb but wouldn't stop pedaling.

I remember seeing stars in broad daylight before collapsing in the dirt,
not being able to walk or see for a short few moments.

I remember reaching the top of the road.
