Gray Grass

Gray Grass

A Poem by Ben Ther
"

My interpretation of Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass"

"

Given the strict time-keeping nature of

clocks, I make sure my clocks

are each set to separate minutes

within five minutes of each other

That way the present is blurred into

     a five minute gap

Rather than the one hot second of now

This is important because if I really knew

     exactly what time it was

I would talk smack like a punk

     chewable bad a*s

I mean, a punctual bedazzler

Here are some examples of what I would say

In this high-flighing state

     of awareness:

"F**k you" to anyone who chooses

    to become shirtless in public

at that point, you are just begging

me to pull your public chest hair

And I would also say, "I love you more while on the phone."

Pretty simple man with a headache. Often pegged as being preoccupied, but... who isn't. However, I believe in striking when the iron is hot. Oh yeah, and timing. Timing is huge. There's a lot to .. more..
