One in a Lifetime

Sitting here with troubled thoughts

Reflecting on my past

My mind rests on one idea

 

In a way this idea bothers me

Love has been so fleeting

Never lasting

But there is always one constant

 

One person has always held my heart

Though no longer of this world

She enters my thoughts like no other

 

You only get one love

One in a lifetime

Just the one true love

 

I can’t believe I missed the signs

Right in front of my eyes

But now I know that love is real

 

All other have paled in comparison

That love was so bright,

So real, so new

So pure and untainted

 

I believe in loving with all of my heart and soul

I cannot be any different

And though I have tried so many times

Never since her have I felt the love returned

 

One true love in a lifetime

If this is the case

My love has gone

So how do I continue in the battlefield we call love?
